"When I was a kid I used to go visit my dad at the barber shop, especially on Saturday after school. I remember that there was no music. But once I grew up, I realized that it was not necessary because the real music was the sound of scissors".
This is how Francesca Bompieri, daughter of the current owner of Antica Barbieria Colla, remembers those carefree days spent watching her father Franco in the workshop that he has been able to turn into a "temple" of luxury shaving thanks to his charisma as a craftsman and writer. Founded in 1904 by Dino Colla, the Barbieria - which today maintains the name of its first owner - still keeps in the furniture, techniques and tools the typical features of the beginning of the century: that time when even the working tools were so beautiful that even handling a razor meant - to use Franco's words - "having a sculpture in their own hands".
In fact, traditional shaving methods are combined with high-quality and craft products, many of which make part of an exclusive collection designed by Francesca. Collaborators are also carefully selected on the basis of the experience they have gotten at family level, because heirs of a precious culture passed down from generation to generation.
A culture that today still survives after 113 years of history and three different properties (from Mr. Colla to his apprentice, Mantovanini, and from the latter to Franco Bompieri), beyond the war devastation (which struck the boutique in August 1943 ) and the social and economic changes brought by the new millennium. Despite all of this, Antica Barbieria Colla - which we are glad to have here at the Promenade du Port in a pop up version - still is an elite point of reference, because "even though the world speeds up and passes from carriages to cars - Francesca said - we cannot lose our identity and all this beauty".
